Cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. more than doubled since last week as of 4 p.m. April 9.
In Massachusetts, the number of cases doubled from 9,000 to 18,000 since last week.
Both Suffolk County, where Boston is located, and Middlesex County, where Framingham is located, have about 4,000 cases each, which are over double the number of cases from last week.
The total number of cases remain less than 0.3% of the state population. Less than 3% of those who contracted the virus have died.
In the United States, over 450,000 cases of COVID-19 were reported. This week’s cases are over double last week’s cases, which previously totaled over 200,000.
New York state has the most cases by far of any state, with almost 160,000 reported.
The total number of cases remain less than 0.2% of the national population.
Across the country, 3.6% of those who had the disease have died, and 5.5% have recovered.
Globally, over 1.5 million people have COVID-19. This number is 50% higher than last week, when about a million people had the virus.
Only 0.02% of the world population has contracted COVID-19 so far.
The United States has the greatest number of cases, with over 450,000. Spain tops the list of countries in terms of cases, with over 152,000. Italy trails about 10,000 cases behind with 143,000.
China was not on the top five list.
