The rate of new COVID-19 cases has stabilized on local, national, and global levels since last week as of 4 p.m. April 9.

This means the same number of new cases for this week is the same as the number of new cases last week, in Massachusetts, the United States, and around the world.

In Massachusetts, the number of cases climbed from around 32,000 to 46,000. The rate of new cases is about the same as last week.

Middlesex and Suffolk counties still have the greatest number of cases among Massachusetts counties, climbing from about 7,000 cases last week to around 10,000 in both counties this week.

The total number of cases remain less than 0.7% of the state population. Less than 5.2% of those who contracted the virus have died.

In the United States, the total number of COVID-19 cases rose by 200,000, from 650,000 last week to over 850,000 this week. The rate of increase is the same as last week’s.

New York state continues to have the most cases by far of any state, with over 260,000 reported, only up by 40,000 from last week.

The total number of cases remain around 0.25% of the national population.

Across the country, 5.1% of those who had the disease have died, and 9.2% have recovered.

Globally, over 2.6 million people have COVID-19. This number increased by half a million from last week, when about 2.1 people had the virus. This increase rate is the same as last week.

Only 0.04% of the world population has contracted COVID-19 so far.

The United States has the greatest number of cases, with over 850,000. Spain and Italy still top the charts in terms of cases, with 210,000 and 190,000 respectively.

The Gatepost will continue to monitor the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and publish a weekly analysis of the latest data.

Worldwide, 7% of people who contracted the disease have died. 27% of those who were infected have recovered.
