Worldwide cases of COVID-19 topped 1 million people as of 4 p.m. April 2.
In Massachusetts, the number of cases jumped from under 2,000 to almost 9,000 since last week. This week’s cases are four times higher than last week’s cases.
Both SuYolk County, where Boston is located, and Middlesex County, where Framingham is located, have about 1,900 cases each. Last week, only 446 cases were reported in Middlesex County, and 342 cases in SuYolk County.
The total number of cases remain less than 0.2% of the state population. Less than 2% of those who
contracted the virus have died.
In the United States, over 200,000 cases of COVID-19 were reported. This week’s cases are also four times higher than last week’s cases, which previously totaled over 50,000.
New York state has the most cases by far of any state, with over 25,000 reported.
The total number of cases remain less than 0.1% of the national population.
Across the country, 2.3% of those who had the disease have died, and 3.6% have recovered.
Globally, just over a million people have COVID-19. This number is about 3.5 times higher than last week, when just under 300,000 people had the virus.
Only 0.01% of the world population has contracted COVID-19 so far.
The United States has the greatest number of cases, with over 230,000. Italy, which had over 53,000 cases last week, more than doubled to 115,000 cases. China, which had over 81,000 cases last week, only gained about 1,000 cases this week.
Worldwide, 4.1% of people who contracted the disease have died. 16.5% of those who were infected have recovered.
