What is your academic and professional background?
I am a family nurse practitioner. I have been a nurse practitioner since 2003. I did my undergraduate at Bates College up in Maine, and then I did my graduate work at Columbia University in New York City, where I’m originally from. I did primary care for the bulk of my career, and then I started in higher education about five years ago.
What drew you to Framingham State?
Really, the community. I am actually friends with someone already who has worked here in the past and someone who currently works here, and they both spoke so highly of the collaborative environment that is here, especially between Health Services and Counseling and Wellness, and that is something I have seen lacking in other institutions. It just really drew me right in. I have been so impressed since I started a little over a month ago by how kind and welcoming everyone has been. It’s been a great experience so far.
What do you like best about your role at FSU?
As a nurse practitioner, what I’ve come to realize in higher education college health is that I love taking care of this age group. It’s like I get to be part mom and part nurse practitioner, so I love being able to fill both of those roles.
What are some of your favorite hobbies or things to do outside of your professional life?
I love doing anything outdoors. In addition to that, I love cooking, working with food, all of that - feeding people, getting together with friends and family.
What is something you appreciate about FSU beyond your position?
I think, again, the community. I hate to sound repetitive, but I would say just the kindness and acceptance of everyone I’ve met so far. I really appreciate that a lot.
What advice would you give to students?
Never stop exploring. Never stop engaging and trying new things.
