Two clubs came to SGA to discuss budget requests over $1,000 on Oct. 20. Corban Allen, the treasurer of Onyx Literary Magazine, presented a budget request first. Onyx is a yearly publication of student works, such as creative writing, fashion, and photography. Allen requested a budget of $4,357.50 to pay for a merchandise giveaway event taking place on Nov. 18, according to SGA Treasurer Jobe Murphy. For a club to be given money outside their set budget for merchandise items, there must be an opportunity for all FSU students to obtain one, according to Vice President Nathan Piette. The request was first motioned by senator Kate Eller and seconded by senator Louie Ranieri. However, senator Khoa Bùi brought it up for debate by questioning if this would be considered a promotional item. If an item is considered promotional, then clubs cannot spend more than $1,000 on it. Bùi referenced Article 4 Section 6 Subsection A.G of the SGA bylaws. A debate ensued about what a “promotional item” is and whether the Onyx’s merch giveaway fell under this term. Due to this, Piette moved to table this event until the next SGA meeting taking place on Nov. 3. Next, Gaming Club, in collaboration with the Pokemon Club and D&D Club, presented a budget request of around $3,000 for Rhode Island Comic Con tickets. The original request was for $2,950, but due to changing price estimates, the budget request was increased to $3,000. They need $2,080 for about 40 tickets. The rest of the requested money will go toward transportation to and from the convention. However, since they had leftover money in their budget, they were told to submit budget request forms for the Spring 2027 events. Their officers must decide how they are going to use the rest of their money before receiving the unallocated FSAT funds. Two new club constitutions were reviewed, leading to the official instatement of the Nourish and Flourish club, and the STEM club. Publicist Cia Rosado announced the formation of her new Publicity Ad Hoc Committee. Here, SGA members will participate in the filming of TikToks and Instagram posts for SGA social media accounts. This motion was passed unanimously. Following this, senator Jonathan Sundberg motioned to appoint Rosado as the chair, and senator Jayden Jefferson seconded it. Rosado abstained from the vote. As is tradition, Rosado also announced the Senator of the Week. This week, freshman Jamila Daikha was recognized for her involvement in the Security Ad Hoc Committee. She has also “been very active in all the committees,” according to Piette. She received her picture and “U-Rock” rock. However, she will receive her certificate at a later date.
